  • Latitude Tents began in 2020 after founder Charlie decided to try roof tent camping for himself. Spoiler alert: it didn’t go great. A few soggy nights, questionable sleep, and some very British weather later, Charlie realised there had to be a better way. With a background in product design (and a strong dislike of being cold and wet), he set out on a mission to create roof tents that could actually handle the UK’s unpredictable climate. The result? Thoughtfully designed tents built for real adventures, whatever the forecast has planned.

  • Yes! We really think so. We pride ourselves on build quality β€” Latitude Tents use heavy-duty ripstop polycotton fabrics, strong aluminium frames, and robust stitching, so they feel genuinely tough and ready for repeated trips in challenging conditions. They’re made for British weather.

Comfort is another big reason people rate us so highly. Our integrated high-density mattresses are noticeably thicker than many competitors’, and the interior layout, ventilation, and large windows make sleeping inside feel a world away from traditional tent camping.

Latitude Tents are also designed to work with a wide range of vehicles, with thoughtful extras like storage pockets, accessory mounting points, and compatibility with add-ons that turn the tent into a proper basecamp.

We’re a small team of campers who actually use our products all year round, so we know them inside out. That real-world experience is why Latitude has earned its best-in-class reputation β€” delivering premium performance and comfort without drifting into luxury-only pricing.

  • You can visit us at our HQ in Frome! If you would like to book a viewing, you can click here to schedule one https://calendly.com/latitudetents/roof-tent-viewing

  • Email is the best way to reach us at info@latitudetents.com. We’re a small team, and if we miss a call it’s usually because we’re fitting tents, sending orders, out on a road trip, or at a show.

  • A roof tent, or roof-top tent (RTT), is a type of camping tent that’s mounted on the roof of a vehicle, such as a car, SUV, truck or van. Instead of setting up a tent on the ground, you fold it out from the top of your vehicle, giving you an elevated sleeping space that keeps you away from dirt, mud, insects, and even small animals. Roof tents can be hard shell, with a solid cover that opens like a clamshell, or soft shell, made of traditional canvas folded inside a protective case. Coming with a built-in foam mattress making setup quick and convenient, and some even include annex rooms underneath for extra space or privacy. They feature a ladder for climbing in and out, and because they travel with your vehicle, they’re ideal for road trips or overlanding adventures. The main advantages include quick setup, a safer sleeping area off the ground, and saving interior vehicle space. Essentially, a roof tent is a convenient way to camp while being closer to the stars, travelling light, and keeping your campsite off the ground.

  • Roof tents, also called roof-top tents, were first invented in the mid-20th century, around the 1950s–1960s. The earliest commercially successful versions came from Europe, especially in Germany and South Africa, where overlanding and safari-style travel were popular. They were designed to give travelers a quick, elevated camping setup, keeping them off the ground and away from wildlife or uneven terrain.

The concept became more widespread in the 1980s and 1990s as 4x4 vehicles and overlanding gained popularity worldwide. Modern roof tents are much more advanced, with lightweight materials, integrated mattresses, and foldable designs meaning they can fit a wider array of vehicles.

  • Latitude Tents makes some of the best roof tents out there, and we’re proud to see more and more people discovering them. We love being part of the rooftop tent community, but we’re especially excited to show what makes our tents different. They’re built tough, super convenient, and come with a 2-year warranty you can count on. Plus, our customer service isn’t just a help lineβ€”it’s real people who actually use these tents every weekend, and a supportive community of Latitude Tents fans ready to share tips and stories.

  • Yes. You can leave your beddingβ€”sleeping bags, duvets, and pillowsβ€”inside while it’s closed. • The roof load limit can be a confusing subject, as many vehicles and roof bar limits are around 75kgs. β€œBut the weight of the roof tent plus me and any others inside will be much more than this” we hear you say.

    However, don’t worry!

These weight limits are dynamic load ratings. This means it’s the weight limit when the vehicle is in motion, so when you and others are inside the roof tent when it’s stationary, this figure isn’t relevant and the static load rating is substantially higher and not an issue.

The forces applied whilst the vehicle is moving, such as air resistance at speed, braking, cornering etc are far more than when your stationary and inside the roof tent.

  • All of our roof tents can comfortably hold up to 300β€―kg when you're inside with the ladder down and locked in position. 150kgs on the ladder at any one time.

  • There are a number of places to get the roof bars required for your vehicle.

  • Yes, roof tents can be installed on roof racks. There are a few more things to consider with roof racks, such as whether it has raised edges or whether there’s enough space to mount the fixing brackets. Most racks will need a β€œroof tent fitting kit”

This can be a great option for truck owners as it allows you to use the bed of your truck for storage while providing a comfortable and elevated sleeping space. You can also install it onto the front cab, by getting a set of standard roof bars for your vehicle. However, roof tents cannot be installed on a fiberglass canopy

  • Yes, roof tents can be installed onto a trailer, many people do this. This can be a great option for those who want the flexibility of a detachable camping setup.
